Kinda like naming your firstborn... Naming your first wizard! - Page 5

[:1]Roy Wood (obscure reference)|||Hmmm, let me think. This game will probably be all about the multiplayer part on internet, yes it has no LAN

That will mean there will be 'X has joined as a player' messages at each game formed.

The names who'll be remembered will be the ones that make that sentence complete.

Therefore valid wizard names for the X will be:

X = Please tank for me has joined as a player

X = I'm the backup guy has joined as a player

X = I got spells has joined as a player

Etc etc, you get the idea.

Of course you could also go for punny oriental names like:

May Hem

Tai Mingh

Aj Luf Yu

Etc etc, you get the idea.

As a last input, one could choose cool fantasy names like:

Scorponach

Ungoliath

Valstakoor

Etc etc, you get the idea.
|||I highly doubt people will be named "I got spells", and all those other examples.|||Yes people will! Maybe not at first but after a while when all names have been taken. People will than start to use humorous names instead.

My first wizard (male) will be called 'I own Sass'.

(joke)
|||My first Wizard is gonna be named Liquor Lahey.|||my character names will all be from various marvel comics just like in every other game|||I'm inclined to name my wizard after a humorous, nostalgic element of the D2 storyline or time-base. Perhaps something like, ArcannaTrickster? That's pretty lame, so I would likely have a more contemporary character name that relates to me as a gamer. Maybe I should avoid being thematic?|||The first name that comes to my mind when I think about a reckless young witch- er wizard is "Willow". |||Quote:

Roy Wood (obscure reference)

And why would that be an obscure reference , Roy Wood is the man

long live " Wizzard "

Dont make em like that anymore |||Quote:

[:1]Albus Dumbledore ^_^|||These threads are dangerous ...

Someone will like someone else's character name and beat him to it

I'll say mine anyway, its kinda boring, I wasnt using the above in reference to it:

Dizzy_Wizzy

What Im worried about is the name I posted in the Barb forum, it is way too cool, shouldnt have mentioned it :P.|||I'll delete the names I listed lol :P You're kind of right there. Actually, I did think the same thing when I posted my char names but I thought "what the hell". No one's getting my names! I'll leave one name though, but the rest are mine!

|||what the hell, everyone's playing the female?!

Damn you shemales

Hey, I just wanna continue the DII tradition. I'm not some kind of perv :P Plus, DII is actually the only game where I played a female char. Being a guy myself, I usually feel more comfortabe with male chars.|||Kuly (F) or Artificer (M)|||of_Id

extra chars so the post won't be too short|||Quote:

Atomicj: I'm going to give my male and female Wizards Chinese names...

The male doesnt look chinese at all, with respect to the fact, that they have small eyes, which the male doesnt seem to have. He looks more like a middleeastern in my opinion.

That being said, i would probably name my wizard. "the learned Bum" which maybe a reflection of my own reality |||BettyCrockerRecipes.|||Lady Gaga..

[:1]Horazon would be nice but i guess they will block names from the diablo universe|||I like to use dark or medevil themes so something along the lines of -->

The Conjuring

Merlin

Black Majik

Dark Hat

Elvira

Kain|||Mary ^^

In D2 I tend to give my chars descriptive names based on the skills they're using or the jobs the're performing like 'Transporter' for a Rush Sorc.

In Single Player games like Baldur's Gate I choose foreign or heroic sounding names.

My male Palladin actually was named Faithguard or my female Wizard Aiona.

But in D2 alas it is more technically and will be so in D3, too, I fear |||Gannondalf|||Angel-A (female) if looks sexy. may save this name for 4th and 5th characters if they look more sexier lol....

Haydar (male) if looks well-built|||I'll probably start with a Wizard. And I will definatly call him Nortrom.|||I'll try for Gandalf the White|||adabra, deemond, pure, dremon, shantai, shanti, gandi lol!|||IsThatARabbitInYourPocket

That one too.

Since I'm going with her obvious Chinese inspiration, I'm thinking something like Leifeng 雷凤 (Thunder Phoenix) or Weihua 危花 (Dangerous Flower). Those are literal translations, though.|||Something funny and simple that people will notice such as :

Horsez

Flashez

Chorche

And I plan on playing male btw|||Some female names i seem to use in various games over the years are:

Ellahna, Ellana, Ellanua

Sareva, Sarevia, Sarevah

Yahna, Yana, Jahna

Inita, Irana, Initah

I think they're both feminine and fantady like.

Some magic:the gathering names I really like, but wil never use because i didn't come up with them, are: Linessa, Chandra, Orim, Alexi|||Eilistraee for female,

Kaeros for male.

These harken back to the names I used to use in old MUDs i used to play...|||I'll probably try and get and for my female and male wizard. If it's going to be my first... well I doubt it. Not going to reveal my first chars name, which will at this point be a female wizard :P|||AssBlaster :P|||I'd call her "Manu" or "Xenchen". Both names refer to my wife, who certainly can match her power with wizards, mages and sorceresses alike

Kinda like naming your firstborn... Naming your first wizard!

[:1]I saw one of these over at the Barbarian forum and I thought, "Why not have one for the sorcis?"

What will you call your first Wizard when the game comes out? I tend to be uncreative so I'll probably name mine an actual girl's name. Something like Ruth or Joana.|||i would call her berbel xD|||I'm going to give my male and female Wizards Chinese names, because it fits with what Blizzard did with the character. |||I'll probably follow my terribly unoriginal trend in turning japanese words into names, they just seem to fit quite well some of them. Sounds like a good achievement to me to obtain archonform on inferno difficulty.

Sounds interesting as well, yes. I just know that I wouldn't sacrifice a skill slot for a temporary buff that I can't fully control and therefore hardly utilize its damage potential. Your version would be great as a passive, activating Archon at killing sprees !|||Would this Archon form be similar to the Barbarian's "super saiyan" transformation (Frenzy i believe, correct me if I'm wrong) but it increases stats which help a Wizard ?|||Quote:

Archon is said to change the function and graphics of some skills and the duration increases the more monster, and it will most likely increase some stats as well.

The Barbarian's version is called Wrath of the Berserker. And the Demon Hunter has something similar as well called Shadow Power. We don't know all that much about these two. Except that Wrath of the Berserker is said to break immunities(note that we found this part in the skill description after they said there are no immunities in the game so either there will be immunities or the description is lying about immunities.).

As for Shadow Power... We know nothing except for what it looks like.|||They said there will not be permanent immunities. We know there are situational immunities.|||It looks pretty sweet Would be great if it extended while you were on a rampage |||Quote:

They said there will not be permanent immunities. We know there are situational immunities.

I don't think they said anything about situational immunities, I know that Jay said that there were to be no immunities and then Blizzcon came and Wrath of the Berserker's decription said it can break immunities...

But then again I would be fine with permanent immunities as long as they aren't everywhere like it was in D2 and there was ways to break it. So I probably didn't pay as much attention to the immunities issue except to know that there aren't any/as many.|||Quote:

I don't think they said anything about situational immunities

Sand Dervish becoming immune to projectiles, Shield Skeletons being basically immune directionally to damage until the shield is gone, that concept art of a gigantic monster with shields for arms that it could use to become immune to damage in one of the Blizzcon monster presentations.

Situational immunities will be there. The question is simply what exactly falls under immunity breakable by WotB. It could be very narrow, or it could be as far reaching as even ignoring Wizard's Diamond Armor in PvP.|||Ah, well all the things you listed I wouldn't really call immunities, but you are right in that we don't know if Blizzard would count it as an immunity or not.|||I wouldn't be surprised, if I saw "arkong are OP" thread later on.

Arkon Form - Page 3

[:1]Going to be one of those things where you have to decide between sacrificing extra damage or an extra ability.|||Do you think archon form gives us a new set of skills entirely? i.e. will every wizard who takes archon get disintegrate when going into archon mode?

Or will archon mode enhance the skills we've chosen?

If every single wizard skill has "archon" mode, coupled with skill runes... the variation is wild. I love it and hope this is the case.|||As far as I know, every class has his 'Super Saiyan mode', that was a given. But I think it enhances the damage output+visuals on the skills that you have and overrides all rune effects since it is one on it's own

I think 'Super Saiyan mode' can be achieved by doing X damage within X time or get X kills within X time...

[/speculation]|||Er. It's just a skill button press.|||Really? That would suck!

Runed Archon ... ohh well we'll see where it brings us |||Quote:

how is some semi-randomly activated buff better than an actual skill to activate exactly when and where you plan to do so? you might want to put some more thought into that and what it means for actual gameplay .|||It counts as an active skill so yes you would have to hit the button to activate it. I'm assuming it's basically just a temporary damage buff and can be used on top of a runed skill. I would also assume since it is a skill that Archon would have runes so maybe instead of increasing damage it increases armor or a specific kind of damage.|||Runed Arkon Form? Now that gets my mind rolling. Just imagine what this already buffed super power would turn the wizard into then.

Based on what we have with the existing rune effects and which direction the majority of them are going, i would go with konfeta's suggestions. Though i would really like to see something mindboggling for those supercharged character forms.|||Quote:

Randomness is the right word. Wouldn't it be cool that once a battle start and you're really getting jiggy with it, you turn into a Super Saiyan on top of all your normal spells and you deliver mo' damage?

This would challenge folks to go that extra mile as archonform increases in difficulty to obtain

Sounds like a good achievement to me to obtain archonform on inferno difficulty.

But if it remains this way, fine by me

No offence and none taken.|||I agree Archon totally looks kick ***!
