I can see where the OP is coming from, though I don't necessarily share his exact points of view.
The Wizard is not exactly a character I'd like to look up to (despite her being powerful) and I generally like to consider my player characters somewhat likable (but not "cheese-cake" likable).
I'll reserve judgment about her personal story though. Her in-game story could potentially be about her gradually going from being the snooty, "damn-I'm-so-good", know-it-all to maturing naturally into a more serene character. Or it could be about her slow path into corruption, in which case she gets what's coming to her.
The last thing I want for her to become is a SC Kerrigan type - I absolutely detest that character's personality, and the more popular she becomes, the more I despise her.
Why is this seemingly "unimportant" aspect of the game so important to some of us?
Because there are those of us who want to really immerse ourselves into our characters, care about them (as persons, not just cold pixelated shells), use our imaginations to fill in the blanks.
Character storylines are not critical to a game's fun factor, but if you're actually going as far as to actually implement it, it had damned well better be good and satisfying.
Story immersion is actually a part of the overall gameplay experience and it's possible to actually break a game over it.
The Wizard's skills look fun though and I'm actually mildly intrigued that they're going with a different ressource model than the boring ol' mana pool. This part has the potential to be really fresh and fun. Here's hoping they don't end up breaking the gameplay with it.|||Quote:
Compared to all the exagerated whining we get today? Yes, they will.
They'll be too much occupied playing the damn game to complain about anything, bottom line
I disagree. People are even complaining about this game and it's not even in the vicinity of completion (I really don't believe anyone is to judge a game before they try it themselves, but that's just IMO). When the game is out people will find other things to complain about, and communities (such as this one) will grow as the release draws closer.
It's not as if the communities (and therein complaints) will die out as the game comes out, I'd like to claim the opposite. People whining now and looking for something to whine about when the game's out, will whine even more intensely. I can see the threads already. "I told you the wizard would be OP!", "witchdoctors shudv been necros", "d2 was more diabloish", etc. And seeing as how the communities will also presumably grow, I'll make the assumption that more people equals more complaints.
More on-topic: To each their own. If you don't feel that you like the char-class' conceptual background, you should either ignore it and perhaps imagine that your certain character is an exception, or you could always just play another class.|||Quote:
Right now the monk and the wizard and the witch doctor all use mana. The witch doctor is actually going with mana, that's official. The monk and the wizard are going to have different systems, and we haven't finished them, I can't talk about them yet. They are definitely both going to be different, but the witch doctor is actually going to be on mana, we like that convention.
that just means now they still have mana the barb had mana not long ago , but they are going.
Different systems isn't bad, just check out Warhammer Online and you'll see that the differing mechanics of each class makes it an interesting play. Also, there is no mana in that game, all actions deplete an action point bar.
Don't be afraid of change people, welcome it. If you ultimately don't like it, well you know what? Someone else will.|||Right now the monk and the wizard and the witch doctor all use mana. The wizard has "Instability". So we only have to know the Monk's resource now...|||one thing that ive been noticing more and more and its really bugging me lol. that wouldnt take long to fix. the electrocute sounds really weak. i want to hear lightning not the sound of the spark when i get a shock off a lightswitch lol.|||Lightning sounds like thunder.
Now if you're talking on the shocky sounding scale of a tesla coil...|||i actually like the idea of young rebellious talented mage that has surpassed even his mentor/master and wants to show whole world what he/she is capable of. well thats how i see her male wizard looked even badasser in concept art but looked more feministic than female wiz in 3d model...
oh well lets see how its in the actual game|||That's the char feel I get as well.
In terms of appearance, it doesn't matter too much when he's facing the other way and wearing some armor. I tend to focus on the monsters rather than how the char looks. Occasionally I'll pick one armor over the other strictly due to looks. When defense doesn't matter on a caster, I might as well go for style points. ;P
