[:1]I had a cool idea for a resource system for the Wizard and just had to post it. I think some of you will like this.
I don't know if any of you have played Chaos in the Old World, but it's a very cool strategic board game which my idea may be kind of similar to.
In this system, the Wizard will have 20 spell points (doesn't increase with levels), used just how you would imagine. Different spells have different costs, and the number 20 is very easy to manage - you can calculate with fairly high precision how spells you can cast with a full mana bar.
The only difference is that your spell points don't regenerate the way they normally have. Instead of regenerating gradually, your spell point bar will fully regenerate every X seconds where X is a value dependent on Willpower and possibly other variables.|||I think this'll make the wizard too imbalanced compared to the other classes. Still sounds cooldownish to me though.|||I don't see how it is inherently imbalancing, nor how it's like cooldown.|||Quote:

Because all the other classes have way different skills/spells and therefore EVERYTHING needs to be balanced again. There is a cooldown effect present because you only get the full manabar back after X seconds.
Can we go further in the General Discussion section, I posted your idea there
Thanks in advance.|||It doesn't appear to be there, also I see no reason why it should go there anyway.
That doesn't really communicate very well how it's imbalancing. Also, the Wizard's resource isn't really decided on at the moment. Not only that, balancing is something that takes place towards the very end of the project, from all accounts.
Why would you have to rebalance 'EVERYTHING' when only one thing is changing, anyway? You think the interrelationships between the Monk and Barbarian skills, for example, are affected and thus need rebalancing?
I don't quite get what you're criticising.
And I kind of see vaguely how it's like Cooldown in that once you've depleted your resource you are at the mercy of your timer to replenish your mana bar, but actually the gameplay outcomes of both of the systems are very different.
Cooldowns serve to restrict the frequency of use of a single skill and only affects one skill at a time.
My system serves to allow you a set amount of spells for a period of time and all the spells at your disposal are its domain.|||It's there, in the 'Why cooldown is a bad thing' thread. Alot of ideas go back/forth there concerning all classes, especially wizard.
The cooldown part on your idea is indeed for the whole of skills/spells, not for the single one. Nonetheless, a hard cooldown it remains.
With rebalance everything, I meant: redo all the classes to fit their skill/spell into this system.
We agree upon that the final balancing will be done on gamerelease and even than will be tweaked further by patches/expansions
