Battle-Mage Wizard PvP build - Page 3

[:1]I see a lot of close ranged stuff, many claimed for a melee build, but zero melee attacks. This is turning into the previous melee attempt...|||"melee wizard" refers to his preference for close-range combat, not necessarily swinging a weapon at his enemies.|||Pretty sure the prerequisite for melee wizard is to have some melee. One person's preference doesn't really hold much relevance--no offense intended.|||That's what Magic Weapon is for Sass.

Assuming Blizzard remembers to implement some specialized Wizard swords (with +spell damage), I am sure Wizard melee will be perfectly viable in some capacity.

The only other necessary mechanical component I can think off that Blizzard hasn't announced is having a spell that direclty uses your sword for attacking (ala Barbarian's Cleave). I think Spectral Blades will have a skill rune or two that do that.|||Quote:

Please show me where exactly im wrong.

I already explained in my last post, in case u missed it, i repeat :

1. HP pool. Wizard got the lowest

2. Skills

Diamond Skin - just a minor increase of your hp for some seconds

Energy Shield - if u will use it on melee wizard, u will lack a lot of AP for your "big nukes" (u will get hits)

Frost Nova - i explained in my last post. Big cooldown + pvp crowd control nerf. (u will NOT be able to freeze players like u freeze monsters)

Ice Armor - same as nova.

Freezing in general - barbs can break crowd control effects. I belive monks will too (because they are melee).

Mirror Image - very nice skill, but how it helps u to tank out the huge melee damage? Let me know

Ray of Frost - very nice skill, still, what it has to do with melee wizard ability to survive? Explain pleaseh

Slow Time - very amazing, but dont forget u are in melee range with your enemy (u are melee wizard), so they will hit u anyway. With lower speed ofcourse.

Wave of Force - if u will push your enemy away, how will u hit him? U are melee, man.

Show me where you are right...

1. How do you know wizards will have less of a health pool? That can be greatly enhanced on all characters using traits and gear so one can easily have a wizard with more hp than a barb. Also the monk is supposed to be fragile as well so yeah... you can say the same for them...

2. You keep referencing long cooldowns and the absorbs are small boosts... if you hadn't noticed by watching all those arena videos, these fights are going to be really fast paced and any small amount of defence will help, not to mention each round will probably be over so quickly that you won't need to use them a second time if you use them correctly the first time... You keep overestimating the supposed huge melee damage of a barb and underestimating the potential of the wizard for huge amounts of spell damage which can be done both at long range and in melee range with the use of runes and traits... If blizzard does their job right, a melee wizard will be just about as viable as a long range wizard and the same goes for ranged barbs and any other out-of-the-ordinary builds...

By the way, the new video showing ray of frost's indigo rune effect supports the possibility of a melee wizard even more...|||Quote:

Barb and monk dont have traits and skills and stuff? i think when it comes to pvp they will try to upgrade there hp pool as much as possible, without sacrificing too much. The thing i try to put out is about hp u get from level ups, and stats. Barb will get more than wizard, monk will get more than wizard, but less than barb, because the game is designed that way. Or u disagree? From this come all the conclusions, melee classes are designed as melee. Wizard is designed as ranged fragile caster with some melee range spells possiblities. But as i already explained in my last post, wizard low hp pool and support skills will not allow him to be a solid melee pvp character. IMHO.

About ray of frost, runed with indigo. Really, imagine wizard, who is staying in melee range with monk and barb while channeling indigo-runed ray of frost. Im looking forward to see it.

And one more thing, blizzard never said anything about "pvp" melee wizard. They just said "melee" wizard. Also, they said, some builds and skills are more effective for arena, than the others.|||I would not neglect a PvP wizard build solely on a lower Vitality pool. There are other protection means for a (PvP)Melee wizard, that might give him protection to outlast melee attacks.

But without a really concise overview and runestone capabilities of all skills this is mere speculation.|||Well, I just found another great melee wizard skill.

I dont know if it's frost nova or frost armor skill rune, but looks like hurricane from diablo 2.

It's in this video, from 0:35 - 0:38.

Imagine having this baby up while hacking on your enemies with magic weapon.

Still looking for a melee skill.

Give it a break will you?

In this thread we define melee as close combat.

Melee = close combat, oposite to range

Range = ranged combat, oposite to melee

Magic attack = spells

Physical attack = weapons

If you want another definition, make your own thread.

Magic weapon might not be a melee skill, but it enhances your standard melee attack. A wizard using that combination is a melee character even with your definition.

Now, lets discuss what possibilities the melee wizard has.

Looking at the rune effects, it seems like most of the skills in this game will have some sort of melee alternative. ray of frost, disintegrate and even teleport. We might end up with more alternatives than I first imagined.

What do you think?
