Thought for wizard resource mechanic

[:1]I have been reading up on the wizards resource and how the diablo team would like to make the class more blasty and vulnerable.

I was thinking that maybe the wizard could have two resources to manage. Depicted as two vials. Like a quick refilling resource that most skills and spells use, and with each use would fill the second resource vial.

Once the second resource vial fills to a certain point it starts making the wizard more unstable, maybe perhaps making her spells better, but at the cost of making her more vulnerable to damage.

She can then have a few spells that can dump all the resource from the second vial to reduce her instability.

For example, she shoots a magic missile, which depletes her first resource (lets call it mana for now), but each use fills up her second resource (lets call it instability for now).

She can continue to do this and thus building up her instability with small spammable spells. But now the instability resource has filled up to 25%, which grants her added damaged to her spells, but increases damage taken by 'x' amount and/or draining life by 'x' amount. 'x' increasing as instability rises.

Which is fine until she gets surrounded or is against a very hard hitting monster. So she uses another spell that spends her instability resource.

The spell can be quiet powerful since it has to be filled up. Something like a massive lighting nova is cast outwards in a 360degree direction causing lots of damage and stunning monsters. Or something that increases the next spell cast to insane proportions (i.e. instead of a few magic missiles, 20 or so fire out - think gundam shoulder rockets kinda look).

So the first vial fills up rather quickly to allow the wizard to spam spells and the second vial builds up gradually with the use of those spells, but also decreases gradually if no spells are being used.

I think this would give the wizard the filling of being blasty and instable. Giving the player a sense of 'how long do I want to keep that instable buff on, knowing its going to kill me?'

What are your thoughts?|||I think with this system, you need to check your vials too often in order to not simply kill yourself. Because of this 'vial checking' you are distracted from the gamescreen which will also get you killed faster.|||I was under the impression, that the resource system for the wizard is set in stone, right?

This system reminds me about combos for the assassin in Diablo II though this is not bound to a specific resource. Spell combos with final large spells would be interesting.

i think there would other ways to add more complexity or skill attention to the game, than adding more resources.
