One word springs to mind here - Comfort.
Call it a dressing gown or a bathrobe, I don't think there's a piece of clothing more comfy to wear - lots of people don't get dressed when they're off work, simply because they don't need to - and that's the second point I want to make.
The barbarian is in melee all the time - he needs the armour to prevent damage - a sorcerer/wizard would rely on not getting hit in the first place...
And, remember - the D2 sorc finds melee combat vulgar, so why should she kit herself out for it?
Doing Martial Arts myself, I know for a fact that I'd not like the idea of attempting a roundhouse kick in a full suit of armour :P|||In D&D, the reasoning behind restricting armor for caster classes is two-fold. one, all the time spent studying and training in magic leaves little room to train to wear heavier armors or be physically strong enough to. and second, most spells require a somatic component to casting the spell (such as hand gestures, drawing on the soil or in the air with body parts, etc.) and having heavy armor impedes the user from completing complex maneuvers required to cast spells. Imagine trying to lift your arms above your head wearing the full plate armor of a medieval jouster.|||Armour isn't as restrictive as you're making it out to be, you should have no problem getting your arms over your head in a suit of platemail.|||You definately would not be adept at making precise and delicate arcane gestures while wearing full plate mail, including plate gloves. Or even chain gloves. See if you can get a chance to put on some full plate sometimes.
Have you ever even worn a pair of leather work gloves? Your fingers are not very nimble in those either.|||actually I do work regually with thick gloves doing complex work in an isolation hood. You do get the hang of it.|||The Wizard is basically a Sorceress anyway. She went to the Sorcerer clans (more commonly known as Mage Clans) for education, and she stole the info she wanted.
She's a renegade Sorceress - a Wizard!|||Quote:
There's a huge difference between someone who actually trains in a combat form and someone who is just in good shape who picks up a weapon. Hand to hand combat, especially with weapons, is an enormously specialized and skilled activity. This is obscured by heartwarming modern movies about medieval days, where a few hardy peasants can pick up old swords and/or hay forks and defeat armored and well-equipped brigands/evil soldiers, but in reality they'd be peasant-burgers in about 3 seconds. Swords and spears aren't guns. They don't instantly level the playing field between the skilled and the amateur.
Having been in the Army for 5 years, I beg to disagree. Give Joe Blow any man portable weapon he desires, give me a M4/M14/M249/M240 and he'll be peasant burger in about 3 seconds. Folks with no firearms training will stand no chance against a trained Infantryman.
Guns take training as well, although granted not to the level medieval weapons do.
Now, to stay on topic:
Theres really no reason a caster can't wear armor (especially considering you can wear whatever armor you want in Diablo as is, given you meet the reqs) and personally I think that open ended system is best. The great thing about Diablo 2 was the great variety of character builds you can make, which is part of the allure thats been luring me back every now and then for 10 years. (I started playing at release- since then I've been to court, jail, graduated high school, been in the Army, discharged honorably from the Army, been engaged, not been engaged and making short trips back the whole time.)
Why take away from that utility? Make a fire bear orb skeleton zeal sorcie. hope you got the items, because I sure don't. Maybe stack an enigma on her so when someone asks how you teleport you 'lol and tell them enigma. I'm not a big fan of Blizzard, but I'm a huge fan of this game, for precisely the reason that if you dream it, and if you can afford it, it can probably be done.
Now to really stay on topic:
Im still upset about the Necromancer being snubbed. >

I guess an IBAS can count as partial plate, and heavy gloves are the name of the game for soldiers on the battlefield. You do get used to them, but it still makes movement difficult. Try bending over to pick something up when you got 40 pounds of armor and 30 pounds of ammo on your chest. Actually, you won't because your body already knows thats a bad idea and you'll squat instead (by instinct!)|||Why wouldn't female Wizards be witches? "We found a witch, can we burn 'er?"|||i dont see why wizard shouldnt be able to use heavy armor either. Attributes can be unique between characters and is up to the owner of the character. Meaning if I want to use heavy armor ill train my wizard pumping strength. The stereotype is that wizards use robes/cloaks etc because they dont need it or they are too weak, well in diablo if you dont wear armor and are too weak then you will die. Str is there for a reason.|||Quote:

Especially considering that caster-types have been able to use magic while wearing heavy armor throughout the franchise. while it's ok in WoW for specialized casters such as mages to wear only cloth armor, that's an MMO. In D3 there will be the multiplayer focus obviously but the characters should be able to kill (and survive) on their own. You don't see mages in WoW taking on dungeons by themselves, but that's something you can expect from a Diablo wizard/sorcerer any time. I guess it just means that the Sanctuary casters are more hardened than the Azeroth ones :-)
