No 'Tanky' Wizard Builds?

[:1]Something just dawned on me while playing D2 again, and trying an Enchantress build, one of the few sorc builds I never tried before. If we can't dedicate our stat points at each level up, and gear still has requirements beyond level (Strength, Dex) I'm going to assume Wizards gain the least amount of Str, whereas Barbs probably gain the least amount of Mana (Fury...). In any case, won't this make it impossible to equip 'off beat' items on characters? If we can't spec our own guys then I seriously doubt a Wizard will have enough Str by level 30 from the default gain to equip the D3 equivalent of a Silks of The Victor. (Ancient Armor, 100 Str Req) There's the option of socketing stuff like gems to boost Str, but still... That's taking away other options, and seriously, you'd like to be able to stop putting points into Mana at some point if you're going melee Wizard...|||Quote:

i am not sure if they have revealed how str (now called attack) will factor into armor requirements, though i seem to remember something about how armor will be dependent on character level now instead. i guess this means you won't have to rely on strength glitching gear as you mention (eg socketing a gem to boost str so you can equip gear).

i am also upset at the lack of customization. remember energy shield sorcs? can't make em now (ES as a skill isn't even in the game). i would have loved for the option of full reattribution of stats at a certain level, but blizz wants full control over characters so they can 'balance' (cop-out in my opinion)|||Gear has no stat requirements. And they are going out of their way to allow melee Wizard builds (they dub them Battle Mage).

It looks like nearly every skill has a skill rune that trades range for melee/defense utility or power.|||Didnt read entire post, but im sure a lot of guys will post how amazing is wizard tanking mode due to armor/diamond skin spells|||Ok, so it seems offbeat builds might be viable after all if gear has been tweaked with the auto stats in mind.
