That would be funny ! It made my laugh IRL !|||A young wizard goes with the game lore though. I am just happy that we can select our gender. Allows me to make an emotional connection with my character, but then I play hardcore only.|||the recent gamestar male DH interview asked about the asian wizards, in awesomely abrupt fashion. One of the funniest D3 interviews ever.

So basically they made the wizards Asian for sales reasons. And that's also why the male wiz is young and anime-style; so the all the koreans and chinese and japanese blizz wants to buy d3 will have a char to play who looks like them. Plus the mage play style seems to be very popular in Korea; I recall Sorcs dominating the asian D2 ladders back in the day; more so than the sorcs did on any of the US or EU ladders.|||As a Caucasian American who has spent a fair amount of time in China, I like the Asian influence for the Wiz, it adds some flavor. And I think the male looks good. As someone said earlier, his mannerisms and voice will really sell the cocky, headstrong aspect of the class if Blizz does it right.

It seems some people have a hard time grasping the real world ethnic influences in Sanctuary.|||at least some 5 'o'clock shade on him and maybe some marking/tattoo in his face.

But the best alternative would be to make him in samuel jacksons image.

Though i do think that it is the perspectives and poses we get to see him in that makes him look 'weak', ingame i think he looks quite badass, i'd imagine he does not look as submissive even when zoomed in. And all of the characters look pretty wierd on thier pvp facial zooms.|||Not to get too sociological, but it's odd that most of the debaters on this issue are Westerners, who have no hesitation in saying how the characters should look for their taste. I guess that's normal enough, especially with Blizzard located in the US.

But do you suppose there are similar forum threads on Korean sites, talking about how ugly and useless the female barb is, with her grotesque muscles. Or how the male monk is freakish with his bald head and beard and how he should look like a proper Buddhist monk. Etc?

If there were such discussions, would you guys think they had good points and wonder why Blizzard wasn't changing the look of the fB and mW the chars to accommodate them?|||Quote:

Very innerestin' perspective, Flux. Speaking at least from the Asian perspective, their concept of evil, masculine, etc. is often the opposite of what we in the West consider evil, masculine, etc. For example, in the U.S. we think of the hero always wearing white. In Chinese media, the villain often wears white, as white symbolizes death in their culture. And we all know about the Japanese concept of masculinity, in which the guy we in the West would consider fey or emo is considered masculine, whereas overly muscled butch types are often depicted as homosexuals.

Speaking from my own experience, the male Wiz is very reminiscent of what would pass as a "rocker" type in mainland China. IRL he'd be wearing torn skinny jeans and a black shirt and jacket with nonsensical English on it, but in the world of Sanctuary he would obviously have to opt for robes and such.|||Quote:

While I'm fond of Gandalf and Zeddicus and Albus Dumbledor and any other number of stereotypically-portrayed wielders of arcane knowledge and power, I think that this goes in line with Diablo III breaking the norms. Not to mention his cool demeanor is a nice contrast to his young features, and those in tandem are a nice contrast to the Wizard's dangerous streak.|||i agree. needs a beard
